The half pillar has to be installed between tripod and head of EQ6/EQ6-R-AZ-EQ6 mounts and separate them by 22cm. This way you can easily use telescopes with rear focus (refractors for example). More, when you use long telescopes like refractors, this avoid possibility the tube will touch tripod's legs.
